A diary of sorts documenting my journey as a Multiple Organ Donor. I become an anonymous living liver donor on September 14th, 2009, and donated my left kidney anonymously on November 19th, 2010
I have two blogs, one details my experiences as a living liver, and kidney donor, the other deals with random stuff I find interesting. Both blogs may contain colorful language and/or some questionable content...click my 'About Me' thing for a link to my other blog.
The lung transplant team at Toronto General Hospital performed 102 lung transplants in 2009 setting a new record for lung transplants at TGH in a single year!
As a result of a surgical technique refined at TGH last year, the one-year survival rate for liver transplant patients has increased to 95 percent.
Several firsts were developed at the TGH, including:
-Canada's largest HIV/AIDS clinic, the Immunodeficiency Clinic - 1994
-World's first successful double lung transplant - 1986
-Clinical use of the anticoagulant Heparin - 1935
-World's first successful single lung transplant - 1983
-First external heart pacemaker used in open heart resuscitation - 1950
-The development and first clinical use of insulin in the treatment of diabetes - 1922
